The West Haven Seahawks cheerleaders begin practice on Friday, August 1st, 2014 at 6pm at Veteran's Field. This will be a 1 hour session to meet your coaches and have a MANDATORY parent meeting. One parent MUST attend this session.
Starting MONDAY AUGUST 4th:
Practices for the month of August run Monday through Thursday from 5:30pm to 8pm for Jr PeeWee, PeeWee, Jr Midget and Midget teams.
Until practice wear is passed out, cheerleaders are expected to come to practice in t-shirts, shorts (NOT DENIM), socks and sneakers. Once we hand out practice wear, your coach will advise you on what days it must be worn. Please be sure your cheerleader brings a large bottle of water to keep hydrated. Girls should drink plenty of water during the day to hydrate in advance! Cheerleaders are to come to practice with hair up and no jewelry on, including earrings. Please wait til AFTER cheer season for any NEW piercings, athletes will be required to remove all piercings during practices and games without exception.
Once school begins, practice time is reduced to 2-3 nights per week, depending upon school gym availability. This schedule will be made available ASAP.
Most home games are played on Saturdays at Veteran's field. Away games are dependent on the field availability of the hosting town.
We are getting NEW UNIFORMS THIS YEAR!!! Cheerleaders are required to purchase skivvies, socks, and cheer sneakers, to be worn at games and competitions. Skivvies will be purchased from the League through Sue Beirne. Sneakers and socks will be purchased via www.teamcheer.com and instructions will be posted on our website shortly.
The West Haven Seahawks league provides to your cheerleader, the use of a uniform for the season (which must be returned), a practice uniform consisting of shorts and a t-shirt (which is yours to keep) and a competition bow (which is yours to keep). Registration costs also covers any bus transportation required to competition and/or playoff games, as well as insurance and field costs, and professionally produced competition music for the teams.
A few years ago, our board members and coaches worked hard to fundraise enough money to purchase a set of cheer mats at a cost of over eight thousand dollars!
All coaches and staff of the West Haven Seahawks are volunteers. These people have agreed to a commitment to coach your children, and deserve and expect a commitment from you and your child to attend all practices, games, and competitions.
